The Healthcare Information Technology Standards Panel Coordinates Health Care

HITSP provides the process where representatives from all aspects of health care harmonize standards. Standards and certification are needed to identify and coordinate technical standards related to Health Information Exchange. Software applications must communicate together to work together: creating, testing, and adopting interoperability allow systems across the health care market to mobilize health information.

Determining Interoperability

Providers and consumers can be assured that certified and standardized Electronic Health Information products and systems are secure, maintain data confidentiality, work with other systems to share information, and perform a set of well-defined functions. The Certification Commission for Health Information Technology certifies provider based ambulatory care EHR-EMR/PM through a process that develops specific criteria for HIT Systems then determines if they meet criteria for interoperability.
